Windstorm insurance: Why do I need it

Windstorm insurance: Why do I need it in Central Houston?

An insurance policy for your home can include a number of different coverages. All of them are vital in the event of an emergency to ensure that your home and property are protected. Insuring against windstorms is one example. Unless requested, windstorms are not covered by most home insurance policies. Under this coverage, if wind or hail damage occurs to your property during a storm, you will be reimbursed for the costs of repairing it and making any necessary repairs.

Damages covered by windstorm insurance

High winds and hail can severely damage your property during thunderstorms. Rainwater may seep into the walls or roof as a result of damaged roof shingles. Wind can also damage window glass, causing it to break. Breaking windows not only causes damage in terms of glass, but also allows water into the home, which further damages your belongings and property. These conditions can occur when high winds occur during a storm, or when a tornado or hurricane occurs. Policies usually cover property damage as well as any resulting damage to belongings.

Who Needs Windstorm Insurance

There is a higher risk for powerful winds and hailstorms in coastal states or states that are prone to thunderstorms, so people in those states typically need windstorm insurance. This type of coverage is included in some homeowner's insurance policies, but not in others. In order to make sure that your house is covered in case of damage, you might want to add this to your insurance policy. Since properties that are located at a much higher risk of wind damage will likely be covered by a homeowner's insurance policy.

To determine whether or not your property is covered in the event of high winds or hail damage, you should consult your insurance agent. Consider adding this to your policy if it isn't currently included to ensure full coverage in the event of a disaster.
